About

Audio collages, dreamy soundscapes, tortured electronics, sonic weirdness, screeching noises, solid punk, psychedelia, spacey tunes, and more...

In 1991 Infant Mortality Rate, an experimental music unit in Houston TX, recorded some collages to a 4-track cassette, called it 'big secrets', and made several copies of it available to the public. This release quickly earned global praise from no one, but did get some tiny amount of airplay on obscure radio programs at obscure local radio stations. Encouraged by that plus chart-busting sales in the single digits, the concept of the Mayday Records label to release more of IMR's music was born.

Mayday Records officially came into existence in 1998 and continues to this day. On our product pages you will find all the available releases from Mayday, most of which are now free for the asking.

In addition, Mayday has acquired the unsold stock of 1990s releases from another local label, Lazy Squid Records. While Mayday specializes in experimental music, the Lazy Squid products here - CDs, vinyl, and cassettes - are mostly old-school punk.

In 2022, the assets of Mayday Records were acquired by a certain sweet potato calling itself Lord Brocton. To this day no one knows how or why that happened - yet it did! And we graciously welcomed our new tuberous overlord.

Please enjoy looking around and we hope you'll request some free stuff and some not-so-free stuff too.
